SAFEGUARDING DEMOCRACY IN CALIFORNIA

The California Election Integrity Initiative, established in 2025 by Shiloh Marx and operating under the Integrity First Alliance, exists to safeguard democracy by ensuring that every vote cast in California is counted accurately, lawfully, and without compromise.

Our work is rooted in the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), the federal law that mandates clean, accurate, and up-to-date voter rolls. We use this framework to hold election officials accountable and to protect every citizen’s vote from dilution or misuse.

Through rigorous voter-roll analysis and ongoing list-maintenance efforts, we identify and correct critical vulnerabilities — duplicate registrations, outdated or incorrect addresses, and records belonging to individuals who have moved or passed away. When left unaddressed, these inaccuracies weaken public trust and create opportunities for error or abuse.

By confronting these issues directly and transparently, the California Election Integrity Initiative strengthens confidence in the electoral process and reinforces a foundational truth: elections must reflect the genuine will of the people — with precision, integrity, and accountability.

ABOUT US

The California Election Integrity Initiative (CEII), founded in 2025 by Shiloh Marx and operating under the Integrity First Alliance, was created with a clear and essential mission: to protect the integrity of every vote cast in California.

We stand on the belief that democracy thrives when elections are conducted with fairness, accuracy, and public trust. Yet inaccuracies in voter registration rolls — including duplicates, outdated information, and other record inconsistencies — place that trust at risk. CEII exists to confront these vulnerabilities directly and transparently.

Guided by the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), we work to ensure that state and local election officials maintain accurate and lawful voter lists. This includes identifying discrepancies, supporting corrective actions, and promoting adherence to federal requirements.

Our work is focused, proactive, and accountable:

  • Auditing voter rolls to uncover and resolve registration errors

  • Educating citizens about their rights and the importance of accurate voter records

  • Advocating for integrity in election preparation and administration

At CEII, we affirm that maintaining clean and lawful voter rolls is not a partisan effort — it is a foundational responsibility in a functioning democracy. By strengthening the process, we protect the vote and the voice of every Californian.

THE PROBLEM

Democracy is only as strong as the integrity of its elections. When voter rolls are inaccurate, outdated, or poorly maintained, the very foundation of trust begins to crumble. In California, thousands of discrepancies have been uncovered — errors that may seem small on paper but carry enormous consequences in practice.

Every duplicate name, every outdated address, every ineligible registration chips away at public confidence. These aren’t just clerical oversights; they are vulnerabilities that open the door to mistakes, disputes, and even abuse. And when citizens begin to doubt whether elections are fair, participation declines — leaving our democracy weaker and our voices diminished.

That is why confronting these problems is not optional — it is essential.

The Four Core Issues

  • Duplicate Registrations: Voters registered more than once, sometimes across different counties, creating confusion and opportunities for error.

  • Deceased Voters on the Rolls: Names of individuals who have passed away remain active, leaving the system vulnerable to misuse.

  • Outdated Addresses: Citizens who have moved are still registered at old addresses, leading to mismatched records and ballots sent to the wrong locations.

  • Ineligible Registrants: Non-citizens or otherwise ineligible individuals mistakenly added to the rolls, threatening the fairness of elections.

THE SOLUTION

Every problem has a solution — but only if we act. The California Election Integrity Initiative, operating under the Integrity First Alliance, was created to confront these vulnerabilities directly and restore trust in California’s democratic process. Our mission is not about politics or partisanship — it is about accountability, transparency, and adherence to the law.

By enforcing the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and demanding rigorous voter list maintenance, we work to ensure that every eligible voter is counted once — and only once. This requires identifying registration errors, correcting outdated or inaccurate records, and holding officials responsible for maintaining lawful, up-to-date voter rolls.

Our work is anchored in three pillars: lawful enforcement, public education, and proactive transparency. Together, these principles create a framework that rebuilds confidence in California’s elections and protects the voice of every citizen.

Our Four Core Commitments

Enforce NVRA Standards
Uphold federal law to ensure voter rolls are accurate, current, and free of discrepancies.

Audit & Correct Errors
Conduct ongoing audits to identify duplicates, outdated entries, and ineligible registrations — and demand corrective action.

Educate & Empower Citizens
Provide Californians with clear information about their voting rights, the NVRA, and why accurate voter rolls matter.

Restore Trust in Elections
Through accuracy and transparency, strengthen public confidence and safeguard the democratic process for future generations.

WHY IT MATTERS

Free and fair elections are the foundation of democracy. Yet when voter rolls are inaccurate, outdated, or poorly maintained, the consequences are profound:

  • Erosion of Public Trust: Even small errors feed public skepticism, making voters question the legitimacy of election outcomes.

  • Risk of Fraud & Abuse: Duplicate or outdated registrations create openings for mistakes, manipulation, or unlawful voting.

  • Disenfranchisement: Errors can cause eligible voters to be overlooked or denied their rightful ballot.

  • Weakened Participation: When citizens lose confidence in the system, they stop showing up — and democracy suffers.

This is why election integrity is not a partisan issue; it is a democratic issue. Ensuring clean and accurate voter rolls means every Californian can trust that their voice is heard, their vote is counted, and the outcome truly reflects the will of the people.

At the California Election Integrity Initiative, we believe that protecting voter rolls is protecting democracy itself.
